This is my first fanfic, i hope any new readers will enjoy it as much as myself and the other readers that support me! ^^



This is just something to make it more interesting...? I dunno... I made it myself, im not good at artwork, so you have to deal with my poor art work -___-;;

Prologue

I was only 12 when I left Korea, my hometown was Chungnam. I didn’t want to leave but I had to…my dad was promoted so we had to move to Virginia in America. I didn’t want to leave my best friend. He was a year older than me. But no matter how I hard I tried to stay, I had no choice but to go to America with my family.

*Flashback*

I was at the park sitting on the swings when I suddenly heard someone calling me

“Minjung!” shouted Jaejoong. I turned around. He ran towards me.
“Jaejoong ah!” I said, waving my hand at him.
“You said you had something to tell me?” he said, catching his breath.
“Oh…that…” I paused.
“I’m moving to America this Saturday and I won’t be coming back in a very long time.” I said quickly.
“Oh…America…what?! Why didn’t you tell me earlier? You’re leaving in 2 days!”
“I know, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier.”
“Will you be coming back though?”
“I hope so.”
“Here, promise me you’ll come back.” He held out his pinky. I wrapped my pinky around his.
“I promise”

---At Airport---

“I’m going to miss you a lot Jaejoong”
“I’ll miss you too” he said. “I want you to have this” He took out a box and gave it to me.
I opened it. I took out the necklace inside the box. A silver chain with jaejoong printed on the silver square pendent. “Jaejoong ah! This is your favourite necklace! I can’t have it!” I shoved the box and necklace into his hands.
“I know it is, that’s why I want you have it, so you will never ever forget me” He placed the necklace into my hand.

“Korea to Virgina, America. Now boarding” said the intercom.

“I guess this is goodbye” I said, almost crying.
“Goodbye” he said.
I gave him a hug and turned around, walking towards to the gate with my parents. I turned around.
“Jaejoong ah! I promise I will be back!”

*End of Flashback*

Chapter 1: Returning to Korea.

Once I moved to America I never forgot Jaejoong, although I lived here for 5 years I still wore the necklace he gave me before I left Korea. At first, I really wanted to go back to Korea, during the first 2 years in America, I tried persuading my dad to let me go back but my thoughts of going back slowly faded away as I met new friends and got used to living here.

It’s been almost 5 years since I left Korea. I’m almost 17 now, my birthday’s next week. I miss Jaejoong a lot. My life has been great so far besides leaving Korea and not being able to contact Jaejoong in 5 years! But in America, I made new friends, started speaking English. But I still missed my hometown. My dad was doing very well in his job so now we lived in quite a big house. My dad called me so I walked to his study.

“You called?” I asked
“Yes I did Minjung. I have great news to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“I’m going to let you go back to Korea for high school and you can live there with your Aunt in Seoul.”
“Why?” I asked
“Didn’t you say you missed Korea? And your Korean is getting worse, you need to stop speaking English for a while to improve your Korean”
I thought for a while, if I go back to Korea then I’ll miss my friends and family. But then I would be able to see Jaejoong! I promised him to go back.
“Ok I will go back to Korea.” I said.
“Great, you’re leaving next week on your birthday.”

---The Next Week. On the Plane (still boarding)---

Here I am, on the plane, and since I was sitting on the side, I was just staring hopelessly out of the window, I wasn’t focusing on anything, I was just staring. *sigh* My birthday, no one to celebrate with, just staring out of the window. Gosh, I feel so pathetic. I held on to the chain and pendent around my neck, the one Jaejoong gave me 5 years ago.

“Hey!” I turned around feeling shocked, I was completely out of my mind, I didn’t even realize someone had sat down next to me.
“Hi” I said.
“I’m Park Yoochun, what’s your name?” he held out his hand for a hand shake. I let go of the necklace and shook his hand.
“I’m Lee Minjung”
“You don’t look too happy” he said.
“Yea, I’ve got a lot on my mind”
“Like?”
“I’m going to miss my friends in America, I’m staying in Seoul with my Aunt until, I don’t know, a couple of years or so plus it’s my birthday, and here I am spending my birthday on a plane” I said, I sound so pathetic when I said that. I don’t even know why I even told him all this, but he looked like he was an understanding person.
“Same, I’m going to stay in Seoul permanently too.” He said.
I looked at him, he smiled at me.
“Since it’s your birthday here, you can have this.” He took a ring off his finger and passed it to me.
“No, its alright.” I said.
“No take it, lets just say its your birthday gift and something to remember the first time we met” he smiled.
“Thanks.” I said and I took the ring.

The plane took off and I was on my way to Korea.

My Aunt was at the airport at Seoul to pick me up.
“Minjung!” she said “How tall you’ve grown. Come on lets go.” I opened the car door and saw Yoochun coming out of the airport.
“Yoochun ah!” I said. He turned to look at me.
“Thanks for your present. Bye!” I waved at him.
“Bye” he waved back. I got into the car.
“Who was that dear?” asked my aunt (curiously)
“Oh, just a friend. Aunt, can I go back to Chungnam before I start school.?”
“Why?”
“I visit a friend of mine”
“Sure you can go, just don’t be gone for too long.”
“Thanks Aunt” and I gave a kiss on her cheek.


We reached my aunt’s house. It was so beautiful, I guess she must have been a bit bored on her days off work to get the house this clean and tidy.

“This is your room Minjung.” She showed me to my room. Wow…it was even better than my room in America, but then my room wasn’t really that good when I was in America…

“Thanks” I said.
“Now unpack your things and get some rest, we’ll go to buy your school supplies tomorrow and then you can go back to Chungnam the day after that”

I arrived at Jaejoong’s house, I was so excited to see him again. I held onto the necklace around my neck. I walked up to the door and rung the door bell. I heard footsteps and the sound of the lock opening. My heart was about to leap out of my chest. I was so happy to see Jaejoong again.

Chapter 2: Faded Memories

---At Chungnam---

But who opened the door? A stranger, I didn’t even know this lady.
“Hi, are you looking for someone?” She asked me kindly.
“Uh…yea…I’m looking for Jaejoong, Kim Jaejoong.” I replied
“Oh, the Kim family, they moved out of this house last year. I’m sorry”
“Oh. Sorry for interrupting you.” I walked down the street. I was so sad, my eyes got all blurry, and I think I was crying. Where did Jaejoong go? I kept repeating that in my head until I bumped into someone.
“I’m so sorry!” I said. The guy was probably about my age. At this moment I felt so bad, the worst I have ever felt in my life.
“It’s alright” he said. “Are you crying?” he asked.
“No” I quickly wiped my eyes with my hands.
“I’m from Seoul, my name’s Yunho, I’m a bit lost right now. Do you think you can help me?”
“Sure”
“I need to get to this street” he pointed at the map he was holding.
“Oh just walk down this street and then turn right.” I still remembered away around Chungnam, it was quite surprising.
“Oh, thank you..uh….what’s your name?”
“Minjung”
“Thanks Minjung” and he walked off.

I returned to Seoul. I felt so bad. I didn’t know where Jaejoong was, I kept my promise I came back but when I come back, he’s gone. That was the worst feeling I’ve ever had in my life.

Memories flooded my mind as I lay on my bed sobbing quietly.

*Flashback*

“Jaejoong are you sure about this?’ I yelled over the loud sound of the howling wind as we ascended from the ground on the fear fall.
“It’s too late to go back now!” he yelled back. I looked down. *gasp*
“AH!!!!!!” I screamed.
“Don’t worry Minjung, here hold onto my hand.” I gripped his hand tightly.
We stopped at the top.
“Countdown..3..” My grip tightened on Jaejoong’s hand.
“..2..1..!”
“AH!!!!!!!” wind hit my face as we fell from the tall tower, we both screamed as we held onto each other’s hand.

*End of Flashback*


*Another Flashback*

“Ok, here we go!” Jaejoong looked at me; I grinned and turned to face the sea in front of us. We were standing at a dock at a beach.
“Ok, here we go..” I repeated after him.
“1,2,3 go!” we both yelled as we jumped into the cold water. I don’t really remember what happened but I think I fainted in the water, I knew I could swim, but my heart felt like it just suddenly stopped. When I opened my eyes again. Jaejoong was in front of me.
*cough cough* I covered my mouth with hand and when I removed it, it had drops of blood on it that was mixing with the seawater. I hid it away from Jaejoong.
“What happened?” I asked.
“I think you fainted, and you were drowning, so I saved you” he gave a huge grin.

*End of Flashback*

No more thinking, I brushed my teeth and changed into my pajamas, I was starting school soon. I covered myself with the warm blanket and fell asleep.

The next week I started school. I arrived at school on a Monday morning. I got out of my aunt’s car. Wow….this is quite big school.

“Minjung, I’m going to still be at work by the time school is over so can you walk home by yourself?”
“Sure” I said, my back was facing her but she heard me.
“Bye. Have a good day Minjung”
“Bye”

I walked through the school gates holding onto my necklace, some idiot sped past me with a bike and I fell over. I closed my eyes. I fell but I didn’t hit the ground, someone grabbed my waist. I felt myself heating up. I opened my eyes and to my surprise, guess who I saw?

uh i have some difficulties thinking of the next chapter, so it might take a while for me to post it but ill try to think really hard but too hard...cause then my head would just explode...there might be some delay so yea...sorry...ill try to post chapter 4 as soon as i can...! ^^;

Chapter 3: School

Who saved me? If you’re thinking of a girl…then no. If you think it was a guy…then yes.

I opened my eyes slowly, I was staring into the eyes of a familiar face.
“Yoochun?” I stood up quickly, he let go off me.
“Uh, hey. Minjung?”
“Y-yea” I said nervously. I could feel pairs of eyes settling on us as I dusted my uniform.
“You go to this school too?” he asked.
“Yea, um…it’s my first day.” The school bell rang. “Uh…I’ll just be going now” and I left in a hurry, feeling embarrassed.


I went to my first class, Mathematics. I seated myself into the back corner of the room, isolating myself from the rest of the class. The rest of the students poured in through the classroom doors.

“As you can see, we have a new student today” the teacher’s eyes traveled to me, the rest of the class followed the path of her eyes.
“Would you like to introduce yourself?” I stood up.
“Hi, my name’s Lee Minjung. Pleased to meet you all” I bowed and sat myself down.
“Hi Minjung” said the class in unison, it sounded weird but in America, I guess quite a lot of people do it too.
The door swung open and hit the wall.
“I’m sorry I’m late miss.” A boy appeared through the door.
“It’s alright Junsu, just make sure you’re not late next time” and the teacher turned her focus on the blackboard and continued teaching.
The boy sat himself next to me, catching his breath as if he had just ran a marathon.
He looked at me.
“I guess you’re new, huh?” he whispered.
“Um..yea, I’m Minjung, Lee Minjung.” I quietly whispered back.
“I’m Kim Junsu, nice to meet you. Lee Minjung, I heard that name somewhere before…”
I looked at him in confusion, I haven’t met him before, and I just recently moved to Seoul, so how could he know me?

After mathematics, I continued going to my classes and meeting new people. Would you believe Junsu was in my Science class too. I guess he was the only person I actually know properly, as a friend. He was properly the reason why I feel happy in class. No I don’t like him, he’s just a new friend I met, like that Yoochun guy, but it kind of makes me feel awkward when I’m around him. Seeing this morning, yea…but I still had the ring he gave me, my only 17th birthday present, it was kind of depressing but at least I’m 17 now.

*RING*

I jumped up, class was over, the lunch bell gave me a shock but I’m fine now.

“Want to hang out with me and my friends?” Junsu asked while we were packing our books away.
“No, it’s alright. Thanks anyway!” I waved to him and walked out of the classroom. It’s not that I didn’t trust him or anything, its just that I want some time alone.

 I walked along the long corridors of the half empty school until I found a more peaceful part of the school to settle down. The corridor I was walking along had beautiful paintings on the wall. I stood in front of one just to admire it. I walked into one of the empty music classrooms. A piano? Wow. I sat on the seat in front of the beautiful instrument. I haven’t played one in a while; I guess it wouldn’t hurt to play on it for a while. I touched a white key with a finger and placed my hands on the black and white keys. As I pushed the keys down, the song I loved was surrounding me. Why did I love this song? Because Jaejoong taught me it, in fact he wrote it himself, pretty amazing huh? As the music spread along the empty corridors, my childhood memories flashed in my head. No one interrupted me even though my back faced the open door and I was facing the warm sunlight pouring through the window in front of me.

“How do you know this song?”

The sudden voice gave me a startle. I turned my head around…

The most predictable part...!

Chapter 4: Lighthearted

I turned my head around stopping the sound of the piano and stared at the face I hadn’t seen in 5 years.

“Jaejoong ah!” I ran towards him and hugged him tight.
“Minjung, you didn’t break your promise, you did come back.” He hugged me back.
“I missed you, I went back to Chungnam but they said you moved.”
“I had to move to Seoul because of my parent’s work.”
Now I understand what happened, still hugging each other I whispered:
“I missed you so much Jaejoong.”
“I missed you too.” He whispered back and we smiled.

This moment felt so nice, I wish it would last forever but voices suddenly came out of nowhere.

“Hey Jaejoong, why did you suddenly whoa…!”
“Hey Changmin, what’s with the oh my god…”
“What are you guys talking wow…”

Although I didn’t want to let go of Jaejoong, my curiosity made me and we turned our heads facing three other guys with their jaws looking dislocated.

“Uh...hey Changmin, hey Junsu, hey Yunho…” There was an awkward silence for a while.

Then Jaejoong started to say something, thank god.

“Hey guys, this is Minjung, remember I told you.”
“Hey! I like so now you!” said Junsu in excitement.
“Y-yea.” I gave him a smile.
“Yah, you look familiar.” I changed my focus from Junsu to the guy with spiky hair, also known as Jung Yunho. I looked at him in confusion, I think I’ve seen him before, but nah…nevermind.
“Anyway, Jaejoong, come on, my cousin’s waiting for us at the cafeteria.” said Changmin in a rush. “But we all know why you suddenly ran off.”
The three guys looked at me and Jaejoong and giggled.
“Come on, let’s go.” The three turned around and headed towards the cafeteria.
“Let’s go Minjung.” Jaejoong gave me a warm smile and I followed him to the cafeteria walking side by side.

I saw Junsu, Changmin and Yunho but I couldn’t really make out the figure that was being blocked by the three.
“Yo Yoochun ah!” Jaejoong shouted from a distance. Wait, did he just say? Yoochun?
The four looked at us. Yoochun bowed his head a little and smiled. Oh my god, Yoochun?! *screams in mind* I was feeling so awkward, maybe because off this morning.
We stopped walking and stood next to the group.
“Yoochun, this is Mi—“
“Minjung, I know.” Yoochun cut of Jaejoong’s last words of his sentence.
“You know each other?” Jaejoong looked at me with curiosity.
“Yea, we met on the plane when I was coming back to Korea.”

*RING*

I jumped a little, I really don’t like the school bell; it always gives me a shock. So back to class we go. Yunho, Junsu and Yoochun walked off to their classes and I was left standing with Changmin and Jaejoong, surprisingly we were in the same class. So we strode off to class with a smile sitting on my mouth the whole time.’

Chapter 5: Curious Thoughts

Minjung, Jaejoong’s childhood best friend as far as I know but it seemed different. She seemed more of a childhood best friend to Jaejoong, but that thought needed to be suspended in my mind for a moment, seeing the bell rang and English class was waiting for us. Surprisingly, she was in our class.

Boredom struck us during class, I looked to my left, Minjung was sitting in between me and Jaejoong, entertaining herself by drawing pictures on the corner of her book and flicked the pages really quickly, making the pictures move. I then looked at Jaejoong, his eyes rested on Minjung’s face. He wasn’t staring just somehow admiring her as if he really loved her. A sudden thought came to my mind. I looked to my right, and stared outside the window and a huge grin appeared on my face.

---Class Ended, School Gates---

The six of us, (Me, Junsu, Yunho, Yoochun, Jaejoong and our new friend Minjung) stood near the school gates.

“You going anywhere Minjung?” questioned Junsu.
“No, I was just going to go home.” she replied.
“Hey, you want to come ice-skating with us?” I asked.
She gave a ‘should-I?’ look at Jaejoong.
“Why not? I mean we haven’t seen each other for 5 years!”
She nodded ‘yes’. “Ok, I’ll come.” Jaejoong walked her home and just the left the remaining four of us standing at the school gates.
“Yah. I’ll meet you guys at the ice-skating rink at 6.” And Yunho took off.
“See you guys there!” and Junsu ran towards the leaving Yunho and slapped his back causing the annoyed Yunho to hit me back playfully.

Since Yoochun was my cousin, we lived in the same house. Park Yoochun and Shim Changmin. If you’re wondering why we have different surnames is because Yoochun is my cousin from my mother’s side. I looked at Yoochun, he seemed different from the past 2 weeks since he moved here. He was smiling, not just shown on his mouth but one that can be seen in his eyes too.

---Back Home---

“Yo Yoochun, you’re going ice-skating right?” I asked. “Yoochun?” He was sitting in his room playing around with his ring.
“Hey Yoochun, I thought you said you lost that ring.” I said. Finally realizing I was talking to him, he looked up at me.
“Oh..um...yea I lost the other one, it’s a set.” He said.
“Oh…I see, so you’re going ice-skating right?” I asked him again.
“Who else is going?”
“Hm…Me, Junsu, Yunho, Jaejoong and…”
“And?” he asked me with interest.
“and Minjung I guess” I finally said. He grinned at me.
“Sure. I’ll be going.”
“Great!” and I left his room.

---Ice Skating Rink---

Oh my god, it’s so cold, whose idea was it to go ice-skating during winter anyway? Oh yea…it was mine. I guess I’ll go talk to Minjung. I put on my skates and skated towards Minjung who was already on the ice.

“Hey Minjung.”
“Hi Changmin.” She smiled.
“How do you know Jaejoong?” She put her hand on her cheek. “Hm…” I noticed the ring around her finger, looked a lot like the one Yoochun said he ‘lost’.
“It’s a long story, my brother’s funeral…” she stopped and her smile faded.
“Your brother’s funeral? I’m sorry I asked…” She smiled, but the smile didn’t touch her eyes.
“I’ll go get something now, so bye for now.”
“Bye.” She waved at me as I skated the opposite way.

I skated towards the little door to get off the ice. I found Jaejoong and I walked over to him. Jaejoong sat at a seat staring at the cold ice in front of him. I sat myself next to him and looked at what he was looking at…”Minjung.” I quietly whispered to myself.

“You like her don’t you?” I asked out of nowhere.
“What?” He took his eyes off Minjung and looked at me.
“I know you do, its kinda obvious.”
“What are you talking about?” He said in a nervous voice.
“Then tell me you don’t like her.”
He said nothing for a while.
“Ok, I admit it, I like her. I liked her since we were little, are you happy now?”
I grinned at his annoyed face.
“So, are you going to tell her?”
He looked at Minjung from his seat.
“I will, just not now.” He finally said.
“When will that be?” I asked in interest.
“Someday.” He said. “Someday I will.”

Chapter 6: First Time

If you’re wondering about me and Minjung’s childhood story, it’s actually quite sad. We met at her brother’s funeral. Her brother, Sungmin, died because of cancer at the age of 18. Why was I there? Because our families were friends in a way, a distant friendship I guess. Even though I didn’t want to go to the funeral that day, my parents made me, saying it was a sign of respect. Seeing that I was so young then I didn’t understand what they meant by a sign of respect. So I refused to go, but eventually I decided to go. But I’m happy I went otherwise I wouldn’t have met Minjung.

---Flashback~ Sungmin’s Funeral---

Minjung-6 years old Jaejoong-7 years old

We arrived at the cemetery, my parents told me not to wonder everywhere and get lost. But I didn’t listen to them; I walked out of the cemetery and I headed towards the park down the road, leaving my parents behind. I loved the lake there, it was so beautiful and then I heard someone crying, I followed the sound and it took me to Minjung. She was in a little black dress, crouched up behind a tree crying.

“Are you okay?” I asked. She turned her head towards me, her cheeks wet with tears. She stared at me and continued to cry. I sat myself next to her and leaned against the tree.
“I’m Jaejoong, what’s your name?”
“M-m-minjung” she managed to say, tears still rolling down her cheeks.
“Why are you crying?”
“My brother d-d-d….” she paused and finally cried out: “died” I looked at her.
“Is your brother Sungmin?”
“How’d you know?”
“ I was here to attend his funeral, but I walked off.”
She cried even harder, hearing that I was here to attend her brother’s funeral.
“Don’t cry, we can be friends? Can we?”
 “O-o-okay” Her crying had stopped but her cheeks were still wet. I took a rock from the ground. I stood up and started carving something into the tree.
“What are you doing?” she stood up looking at the rock and tree.
“Hold on” I said. A few seconds later… “Done!”
She smiled after she looked at the carving on the tree. “Jaejoong + Minjung” with a smiley face below it. She took the rock from my hand and carved a heart around it. We smiled at each other. She was no longer carried a frown on her face but a warm, soft smile.
“Come on, let’s go back to the cemetery.” I took her tiny hand and started walking back to the cemetery, turning my head, taking one last look at the tree and the beautiful lake beyond it.

---End of Flashback---

That was how I met Minjung 10 years ago. The first time she smiled at me, her warm smile made my day. That’s why I like her so much…

---School---

I walked through the front gates waving to Yunho, Junsu, Yoochun and Changmin.

“Jaejoong ah!” I turned around and found a smiling Minjung facing me. I looked at the chain around her neck, I guess I couldn’t see it before because she was wearing a scarf seeing that its winter. She stopped in front of me.
“Good morning!” she said, still carrying her smile.
“Morning” I greeted her. I lifted the pendent on the chain with my name printed on it and grinned.
“I see you still have it.” I said. She grinned at me.
“Of course I do, it’s also my favorite necklace too, you know.” She walked through towards the school running towards Yunho, Junsu and the others. She turned around.
“Hurry up Jaejoong! Otherwise, we’re going to be late!”
I smiled and walked towards her.
